Today's Devotion

Trust the Guide

“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Proverbs 3:5–6

Your understanding is a good servant but a poor master. Hand the map to the One who drew it.

Day 1 New Mercies Every Morning Lamentations 3:22–23
“Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed; his compassions never fail. They are new every morning.”

Yesterday’s failures do not get a vote on today. God’s mercy restocks overnight — walk into this day like it’s the gift it is.

Day 2 Be Still Psalm 46:10
“Be still, and know that I am God.”

Stillness is not doing nothing; it is trusting Someone. Before the noise of the day starts, give God the first quiet minutes.

Day 3 Trust the Guide Proverbs 3:5–6
“Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”

Your understanding is a good servant but a poor master. Hand the map to the One who drew it.

Day 4 Wings Like Eagles Isaiah 40:31
“Those who wait on the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings like eagles.”

Waiting on God is not stalling — it is refueling. Strength comes to the waiter, not the worrier.

Day 5 Strength for Today Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”

Not all things by your strength — all things through His. Today’s task list is smaller than your Savior.

Day 6 Woven for Good Romans 8:28
“We know that all things work together for good to those who love God.”

God wastes nothing — not the detour, not the delay, not the disappointment. He is weaving even this.

Day 7 Strong and Courageous Joshua 1:9
“Be strong and courageous... for the LORD your God is with you wherever you go.”

Courage is not the absence of fear; it is fear that has heard from God. Go — you do not go alone.

Day 8 The Shepherd Provides Psalm 23:1
“The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

A sheep’s only job is to stay near the Shepherd. Provision follows presence.

Day 9 Rest for the Weary Matthew 11:28
“Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.”

Jesus does not offer a lighter load first — He offers Himself first. Bring Him the heaviness.

Day 10 Grace Is Enough 2 Corinthians 12:9
“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.”

Your weakness is not the obstacle to God’s power; it is the doorway. Stop apologizing for needing Him.

Day 11 Help from Above Psalm 121:1–2
“I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come? My help comes from the LORD.”

Look up before you look around. Help has an address, and it is higher than your problem.

Day 12 Fear Not Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; be not dismayed, for I am your God.”

God’s answer to fear is not explanation — it is presence. ‘I am with you’ outranks every ‘what if.’

Day 13 Take Heart John 16:33
“In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”

Jesus never promised calm seas; He promised an unsinkable ship. Tribulation is real, but it is temporary — He is eternal.

Day 14 Overflowing Hope Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing.”

Hope is not wishful thinking; it is a Person. Let Him fill you until joy spills onto someone else today.

Day 15 Delight First Psalm 37:4
“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.”

Delight reshapes desire. Chase God first, and you will be amazed how your wants start wanting the right things.

Day 16 Fruit That Shows Galatians 5:22–23
“The fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control.”

Fruit is grown, not manufactured. Stay connected to the Vine and the fruit will show up on its own.

Day 17 Walk Humbly Micah 6:8
“He has told you, O man, what is good: to do justice, love kindness, and walk humbly with your God.”

God’s job description for you fits in one verse. Justice, mercy, humility — pick one to practice deliberately today.

Day 18 Pray Without Ceasing 1 Thessalonians 5:16–18
“Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances.”

Prayer is not a meeting you attend; it is air you breathe. Turn today’s commute, chores, and coffee into conversation with God.

Day 19 Faith Sees First Hebrews 11:1
“Faith is the assurance of things hoped for, the conviction of things not seen.”

Faith is not blind — it sees further. It calls the unseen promises of God more real than the visible problems.

Day 20 Ask for Wisdom James 1:5
“If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all.”

God is not stingy with wisdom. Today’s hard decision is an invitation to ask — He loves that prayer.

Day 21 Cast Your Cares 1 Peter 5:7
“Cast all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.”

Anxiety is a weight you were never built to carry. Hand it over — His shoulders are broader, and He actually cares.

Day 22 Words That Please Him Psalm 19:14
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in your sight, O LORD.”

Before you speak today, run it through one filter: would this please the Lord who hears it? That changes everything.

Day 23 Work as Worship Colossians 3:23
“Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men.”

Monday work becomes worship when the Boss changes. Do today’s ordinary tasks for an extraordinary Audience.

Day 24 Truth in Love Ephesians 4:15
“Speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ.”

Truth without love is a weapon; love without truth is a fog. Hold both — that is how this site tries to report, too.

Day 25 Let It Shine Matthew 5:16
“Let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father.”

You are not the light source — you are the lampstand. Stay close to the Source and don’t hide the glow.

Day 26 Power, Love, Sound Mind 2 Timothy 1:7
“God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.”

Fear is not from God — full stop. Power, love, and a clear mind are. Walk in what He actually gave you.

Day 27 A Lamp for the Path Psalm 119:105
“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

God lights the next step, not the whole staircase. Take the step you can see; the next light comes with it.

Day 28 Perfect Peace Isaiah 26:3
“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.”

Peace is a byproduct of focus. Fix your mind on Him today and watch anxiety lose its audience.

Day 29 Stay Connected John 15:5
“Abide in me, and I in you. Apart from me you can do nothing.”

A branch’s entire strategy is staying attached. Your productivity today flows from connection, not striving.

Day 30 No More Tears Revelation 21:4
“He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more.”

Whatever is broken today is not the end of the story. The last chapter has no tears — read toward it.

Day 31 The Blessing Numbers 6:24–26
“The LORD bless you and keep you; the LORD make his face shine upon you and be gracious to you.”

This ancient blessing is still God’s heart toward you today. Receive it before you try to earn anything.

The Investigation

Where is the church today? · updated Oct 3, 2026
Draft — updated Oct 3, 2026

Where Is the Church Today?

An investigation in five parts — from the series “Why Did the Church Leave?”

Five areas where the church once carried weight: civic life, finance, schools, colleges, healthcare. We know the backstory — how that weight shifted, thinned, or was handed to others. The sharper question is the present one: where is the church today, in each of these five areas, right now? Each theme below pairs the history with today's reality and the freshest reporting we are tracking.

This is not an accusation from above; it is a question asked from within.

Every claim on this page is sorted the way we sort the news: what the text says, what is documented fact, what is interpretation, what is possibility, and what is only speculation — never blurred together.

Matthew 5:13–16 — “You are the salt of the earth… You are the light of the world.” Has the church lost its saltiness? Is the writing on the wall? — Daniel 5

1. Politics & Civic Life

The church was once the town square — the meetinghouse where news was shared, decisions were weighed, and neighbors organized to care for one another. The loudest voices in the public square today are often corporate lobbies and special interests. The question is not whether Christians should seize power, but whether the church quietly vacated a post it was called to hold — and what faithful presence looks like now.

Where we are today: religious freedom is under fresh pressure — war and government surveillance are emerging as the newest challenges to believers worldwide, and Christian liberty is now called a “defining test” for governments.

Scripture anchors

  • Jeremiah 29:7 — “Seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you… for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” Exiles told to serve their city, not flee it.
  • Micah 6:8 — “Do justice, love kindness, walk humbly with your God.” Civic engagement framed as worship, not conquest.
  • 1 Peter 2:13–17 — Honor everyone, love the brotherhood, fear God, honor the emperor — as servants of God, not as partisans.

2. Finance

Scripture speaks plainly about honest scales, the trap of debt, and care for the poor — and the church once ran benevolent societies, mutual aid, and debt relief as ministry. Today household debt, medical debt, and student debt crush families while digital money systems rise around the world. Where did the church’s voice on money go — and who disciples believers in stewardship now?

Where we are today: debt is the quiet crisis — and churches themselves are not exempt. This week one Methodist conference moved $5 million in debt relief to at least 25 of its own churches.

Scripture anchors

  • Proverbs 22:7 — “The borrower is slave to the lender.” Debt described as bondage, not a lifestyle.
  • Leviticus 25 — The year of jubilee — debts released, land returned. God built reset into the economy.
  • Matthew 6:24 — “You cannot serve God and money.” A heart-level diagnostic before any policy debate.
  • James 5:1–6 — A warning to the rich who withhold wages — exploitation has a Witness.

This theme is tracked in the daily edition — see U.S. and Top News. See the message slideshows →

3. Public Schools

American schooling began in church schoolhouses with Scripture at the forefront. Through court decisions, curriculum reforms, and cultural shifts, the classroom changed — prayer left, the Bible left, and new orthodoxies arrived. This theme gets the deepest investigation: not slogans about the past, but dates, cases, and documents tracing how we got from there to here.

Where we are today: believers are still contending for conscience in the classroom — this week a Christian teacher and a New Mexico school district reached a settlement.

Scripture anchors

  • Deuteronomy 6:6–7 — Teach God’s words diligently to your children — at home, on the road, morning and night.
  • Proverbs 22:6 — “Train up a child in the way he should go.” Formation is the assignment.
  • Ephesians 6:4 — Fathers: bring children up in the discipline and instruction of the Lord — not provoking them.

This theme is tracked in the daily edition — see U.S. and Top News. See the message slideshows →

4. Colleges & Higher Education

Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Dartmouth — founded to train ministers and glorify God, their charters said so. Missions drifted, tuition soared, and students now graduate into crushing debt, sometimes from Christian colleges themselves. Meanwhile, dissent from campus orthodoxies can cost scholars their careers. What happened to the university the church built?

Where we are today: the campus remains contested ground — and also a platform. This fall Liberty University hosts “Freedom Uncensored 2026” with Erika Kirk and Dr. Ben Carson.

Scripture anchors

  • Proverbs 1:7 — “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge.” Education starts with reverence.
  • Colossians 2:8 — “See to it that no one takes you captive by philosophy and empty deceit.” Discernment as a discipline.
  • Daniel 1 — Daniel learned Babylon’s literature without bowing to Babylon’s gods — excellence without compromise.
  • 1 Thessalonians 5:21 — “Test everything; hold fast what is good.”

This theme is tracked in the daily edition — see U.S. and Top News. See the message slideshows →

5. Healthcare

The hospital was a Christian invention — religious orders and deaconesses providing cradle-to-grave care, free or otherwise, like the Good Samaritan on the road to Jericho. Today medical debt bankrupts families, drug prices soar, rural hospitals close, and the most vulnerable — the unborn above all — are unprotected. Where did the church’s healing ministry go?

Where we are today: no fresh wire on this beat in the current edition — the daily edition is watching it. The pattern holds: medical debt bankrupts families while the church’s historic healing ministry is a memory most congregations were never taught.

Scripture anchors

  • Luke 10:25–37 — The Good Samaritan — mercy that crosses the road, binds wounds, and pays the bill.
  • Matthew 25:35–36 — “I was sick and you visited me.” Christ identifies with the suffering.
  • James 5:14–15 — Call the elders, pray over the sick — the church’s own care structure.
  • Isaiah 58:6–8 — True fasting looses bonds and shares bread — then “your healing shall spring up speedily.”

The Heart of the Matter

In the news this week: 550+ Christian leaders from 51 nations are gathering in Jerusalem for ‘Awake Jerusalem’ — gathering, not dispersing.

The problem has been named. Here is the message of the solution: unity, not division — to gather, not disperse. We are greater in numbers, and greater in Christ. This is a community of unity — a trusted body where each person is elevated into the place God anointed them for, living out their calling to build up the body and bring about the kingdom of God.

That kingdom stands in conflict with the kingdom of this world and the god of this world — little “g” — an adversary whose oldest strategy is divide and conquer. And he has done it well.

So the call: set aside our differences and unite for the plans God has for us for such a time as this — plans to give us a hope and a future. We do not back down before evil or the evil one: we have been given authority to tread on serpents and scorpions. And we await — joyfully — the return of our King.

Esther 4:14 — “Who knows but that you have come to your royal position for such a time as this?”
Jeremiah 29:11 — “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.”
Luke 10:19 — “I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you.”
John 16:33 — “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world.”
Daniel 12:3 — “Those who are wise will shine like the brightness of the heavens, and those who lead many to righteousness, like the stars for ever and ever.”

Where did we go? Where are we now? What responsibility belongs to us — and what would faithful presence look like again? Return to Christ. Return to Scripture. Return to truth, mercy, service, courage — return to the Gospel.
